Loudoun United are set to play their fourth match of the 2021 United Soccer League (USL) Championship Regular season against Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC on Wednesday, June 2 with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m. EST. Loudoun United will look to build on their strong performance in their last match and carry that momentum into a tough matchup at home against Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC on Wednesday night.
In their last match, Loudoun United won 1-0 on the road against New Mexico United. A red card by New Mexico United early in the match allowed the Red-and-White to play with a man advantage for a majority of the match, and they capitalized on it with three points thanks to a 40th minute goal by Jovanny Bolivar. The 23rd minute red card occurred when Kairou Amoustapha used his pace to outrun the New Mexico defense and was brought down from behind to deny a clear goalscoring opportunity. Loudoun took advantage of the extra man late in the first half when Kairou Amoustapha played a pass across the top of the penalty area that Jovanny Bolivar struck perfectly with a first-time shot into the top right corner. It was Bolivar’s first goal for Loudoun United and Amoustapha’s first assist for the side during the 2021 season. Loudoun went into halftime leading 1-0.
New Mexico United pushed for an equalizer in the second half, but the Loudoun United defense held strong and prevented them from scoring the tying goal. Jermaine Fordah made five saves on the night and was crucial in helping the Red-and-White keep their first clean sheet of the 2021 season. His best save came in the 88th minute when he lunged to his right to narrowly push away a great opportunity for New Mexico to tie the match off a corner kick. Loudoun United hung on to win 1-0 and earned their first three points of the season.
The match will be broadcast on ESPN+ with coverage beginning at 7 p.m. EST.
