Loudoun United will return home to Segra Field to face the Charleston Battery for their 14thmatch of the 2021 United Soccer League (USL) Championship on Tuesday, July 27 with kickoff set for 7 PM ET. The Red-and-White will look to put an end to their losing streak and earn three crucial points at home on Tuesday night.
In their last match, Loudoun lost 3-1 to the Tampa Bay Rowdies on July 24. Loudoun kept 54% of the possession in the match but were unable to keep up with a potent Rowdies attack. Tampa Bay scored the first goal of the match in the 7thminute when Aaron Guillen scored on a counterattacking opportunity. Loudoun nearly found an equalizer in the 24thminute, but Jeremy Garay’s effort from just outside the box went flew just over the crossbar. Jermaine Fordah made eight saves on the night, including five important ones in the first half to keep the Tampa Bay lead at just one. Tampa Bay led 1-0 at halftime.
The Rowdies scored their second goal in the 52ndminute when Leo Fernandes scored with a low shot from outside the box. Loudoun cut the lead in half in the 70thminute when Nicky Downs, who came on as a substitute just minutes before, fired a shot from outside the box that took a slight deflection off a Tampa Bay defender before beating the goalkeeper. Erik Sorga, who came on as a 46thminute substitute to make his first appearance of the season for Loudoun United, assisted Downs on the goal. Tampa Bay scored one last goal in the 74thminute and went on to win the match 3-1.
Loudoun United have an all-time record of 1-3-0 against the Charleston Battery in their club’s history. The match on Tuesday night will be the third of four times the two sides will match up during the 2021 USL Championship regular season.
