Loudoun United are set to play against the Charlotte Independence for their 16th match of the 2021 United Soccer League (USL) Championship on Friday, August 6 with kickoff scheduled for 7 PM ET. The Red-and-White will look to get back to winning ways as they take on a tough Charlotte Independence squad at home on Friday night.
In their last match, Loudoun United lost 3-1 to the Colorado Springs Switchbacks on Saturday, July 31. The two teams played a close first half, with neither side able to find many goalscoring opportunities. Ted Ku-DiPietro had the best chance of the half in the 23rd minute when he found space on the left side but had his well-hit shot saved by the goalkeeper. Loudoun played a strong first half defensively and went into halftime tied 0-0.
Colorado Springs scored two quick goals in the 63rd and 65th minutes to give them a 2-0 lead early in the second half. Loudoun responded with a goal of their own in the 70th minute when Kimarni Smith converted at the back post from a cross by Kairou Amoustapha. The goal was the first of Smith’s professional career. Loudoun United fought until the very end of the match to get the tying goal. After a couple of close chances for the Red-and-White, Colorado Springs scored a goal late in second half stoppage time and went on to win the match 3-1.
The match on Friday night will be the third all-time matchup between the two teams. Loudoun United has a record of 1-0-1 record against Charlotte with their last match against them back on August 9, 2019 when the they played to a 3-3 draw. Both teams play in the Eastern Conference Atlantic Division and will face each other a total of four times this season.
