Match Recap – Loudoun United FC vs. Charleston Battery
Loudoun United Football Club split the points with Charleston Battery in a 1-1 draw to remain undefeated at Segra Field this season (6-0-1).
Match Summary
Loudoun United FC moved to 7-3-1 on the season following a 1-1 draw against Charleston Battery at Segra Field, preserving their undefeated home record in the 2025 campaign. In a fast-paced first half, both sides traded chances and shots on goal. Charleston finally broke through just before the break, when MD Myers capitalized on a deflection inside the six-yard box to score in the 43rd minute. Despite several close attempts, Loudoun couldn’t find the back of the net in the opening 45 and headed into halftime trailing 1-0.
Loudoun came out strong in the second half, immediately putting pressure on the Charleston defense. Their efforts paid off in the 67th minute when Moses Nyeman scored his first goal of the season with a composed half-volley off a corner kick, slipping the ball between three Charleston defenders. It was Nyeman’s first goal for Loudoun United since August 10, 2022, against San Antonio FC. The teams continued to battle, with both generating dangerous chances. Loudoun goalkeeper Hugo Fauroux turned in another standout performance, recording seven saves to keep the Red-and-White in the match.
The 1-1 result marked the first draw of the season for both teams. The two Eastern Conference contenders will meet again on August 23rd at Patriots Point in Charleston, SC.
Loudoun United Football Club is back home next Saturday, June 14th to host Detroit City FC.
Thoughts from the Club
Head Coach Ryan Martin on splitting the points at home:
“This was a great test for us; two quality clubs of good caliber that respect each other both on and off the pitch. It was a tale of two halves for us. We felt that our first half just wasn’t our game, and we weren’t true to ourselves or our identity. The second half was a different story, we found our rhythm and started creating more quality chances in their half. It was great to see Moses (Nyeman) get back on the scoresheet, well deserved from him.”
Moses Nyeman on scoring the tying goal:
“It felt great, really great. If you don’t shoot, you don’t score. I had some chances in the last couple of matches that I felt I should’ve put on target, but instead, I looked for another pass. Now it’s just on to the next match, we know the drill. One match at a time.”
