WakeMed Soccer Park, Cary, North Carolina
Watch on ESPN 3
After picking up a point on the road at St. Louis last week, Loudoun United will look inch closer to a top ten spot in the eastern conference with a win at North Carolina FC. As challenging as a road matchup against a top five team may be, Loudoun has proven to battle well on the road as three of their four wins have come away from home.
Carolina currently sits in fourth place in the eastern conference and will be a tough test for Loudoun as they are 4-0-4 at home. They are coming off a loss to Birmingham and have not dropped two in a row yet this season, proving to be one of the USL Championship’s most consistent teams.
Players to watch
Loudoun United: Loudoun’s offensive attack and defensive strategy have been meshing better lately, as they’ve scored four goals in their last two games while only conceding three. Team captain Kyle Murphy continues to lead the team offensively, picking up his 5thgoal last week. He’s proven to be a threat inside the box as a scorer and in the open field as a distributor also, as he leads the team with three assists.
North Carolina: Carlos Small has been a key piece to North Carolina’s offense, as he leads the team with seven goals. Loudoun will work to force him to shoot from long range, as all his goals have been struck from inside the box. Alex Tambakis has been fabulous in net for Carolina, proving to be a top goalkeeper in the USL Championship with five clean sheets and 52 saves.
