
Loudoun United FC (0-2-1, 1 pts.) resume their away stretch with the fourth group stage match of the 2020 USL Championship season against New York Red Bulls II on Wednesday, Aug. 12 at 7 p.m. ET. After falling short in their first two matches against Hartford Athletic since the continuation of the season, the Red-and-White will be looking to add to their point tally in Group F. The top two teams from each group in the regular season will advance to the 2020 USL Championship Playoffs, producing a field of 16 teams overall in a regionalized single-elimination bracket. Group winners will be paired with Group runners-up in the Round of 16, with home advantage being determined by record for the remainder of the bracket.
In their inaugural season in 2019, LUFC beat New York Red Bulls II in both fixtures, tallying an impressive 10 goals in two games. Loudoun United won their first fixture in club history against Red Bulls II 3-1 on April 20, 2019. In the second fixture on Oct. 20, 2019, the Red-and-White won 7-3 with current LUFC forward Elvis Amoh scoring a goal in the 46th minute.
In their last match, LUFC fell to Hartford Athletic 4-1 on Aug. 2, 2020 at Dillon Stadium in Connecticut. The Red-and-White went behind 2-0 after goals from Éver Guzmán in the 7th and 18th minute. Elvis Amoh scored a consolation goal from the penalty spot in the 21st minute to take the score to 2-1 heading into halftime. It was his second goal since the return to play after also scoring a penalty against Hartford on July 20. After the halftime break, Hartford added to the scoreline with a goal from Daniel Barrera in the 66th minute. Alfonso Vázquez completed the 4-1 win for Hartford after scoring deep in second half stoppage time. Kairou Amoustapha made his LUFC debut in the match and had plenty of positives to build on after impressing in the frontline during his first game for the club.
