Last time out, Loudoun United drew 2-2 away to Hartford Athletic in their seventh match of the 2020 USL season. LUFC scored the first goal in the 22ndminute when Shane Wiedt bagged his first professional goal on a header scored directly from a free kick taken by Jeremy Garay. LUFC played well for the remainder of the first half and went into halftime winning 1-0. In the 73rdminute, Elvis Amoh doubled the Red-and-White’s lead, hitting a powerful half volley from outside the box that flew into the left corner of the net. Hartford Athletic responded shortly after with two goals of their own with the first one coming in the 85thminute via a well-placed free kick by substitute Markus Nagelstad. The second one came four minutes later when Nagelstad hit another dangerous free kick, which cannoned off the underside of the bar and fell kindly for Alex Dixon to tap home from close range.
Simon Lefebvre, D.C. United’s first round draft pick in the 2020 MLS Draft, made his Loudoun United debut on the night and made multiple saves throughout the match. His evening was highlighted by an acrobatic save late in second half stoppage time, tipping a well-hit shot over the bar to preserve the draw.
Loudoun United will celebrate their continued commitment towards equality for the LGBTQ+ community Saturday night at Segra Field, as the club hosts Pride Night in partnership with Equality Loudoun.
