
Loudoun United are set to play their first match of the 2021 United Soccer League Championship Regular Season against Miami FC on Sunday, May 2 at 7:30 p.m. EST at Florida International University Stadium in Miami, Florida. The Red-and-White will look to start the season off on the right foot and earn three points on Sunday night against a tough Miami FC side.
Loudoun United will look to build on the positive momentum they’ve gained over their first two seasons as a club in the USL Championship. Head Coach Ryan Martin will enter the 2021 regular season with an exciting squad composed of a mixture of experienced, veteran players and talented, young players. Kairou Amoustapha, Ted Ku-DiPietro, and Timmy Mehl are among the key returning members of the squad that will be leading the Red-and-White into the new season. Gaoussou Samaké, Jovanny Bolívar, and Logan Panchot are among the exciting new group of players set to play their first season with the club in 2021.
Loudoun United played two friendlies during their 2021 Preseason schedule. The first match was against their Major League Soccer affiliate club, D.C. United, on Friday, March 26 at Audi Field. They lost the friendly 5-1 with the lone goal coming from Kairou Amoustapha on a breakaway in the 86th minute. Their second friendly came on Sunday, April 25 against Philadelphia Union II. Loudoun lost 4-2 with the two goals coming from Sam Sergi in the fourth minute and from Kairou Amoustapha in the 19th minute.
The match on Sunday will be the first time these two clubs play each other. Both teams will be competing in the Atlantic Division during the 2021 USL Championship Regular Season and will play each other a total of four times. Under the new 2021 USL Championship alignment, Loudoun United will play each of the other seven teams in the Atlantic Division four times (twice at home and twice away), making up 28 of the 32 games in their season. The remaining four games will be played against regional or cross-conference opponents.
The match will be broadcast on ESPN+ with coverage beginning at 7:30 p.m. EST.
