Loudoun United are set to play against Hartford Athletic in their tenth match of the 2021 United Soccer League (USL) Championship Regular season on Sunday, July 4 at 5 PM ET. Loudoun will look to win their second straight match at home on Sunday night when they take on Hartford Athletic for the second time this season.
In their last match, Loudoun United won 2-1 against Pittsburgh Riverhounds in a match that was delayed nearly two hours due to inclement weather. A strong defensive performance and tremendous long-range goals by Ted Ku-DiPietro and Jovanny Bolivar helped lead the Red-and-White to their first home win of the season. Loudoun started the first half well and nearly found in a goal in the 13thminute when Darluis Paz’s header off a corner kick went just wide. They kept the pressure on all half and finally found the goal in the 42ndminute when Ted Ku-DiPietro’s curled effort from outside the box found the top right corner. It was Ku-DiPietro’s first goal of the season and third of his Loudoun United career.
The Pittsburgh Riverhounds scored the first goal of the second half in the 48thminute when Louis Perez finished off a counterattack from in-close. Loudoun responded well and scored a goal of their own in the 75thminute when Jovanny Bolivar scored his fourth goal of the season, launching a shot into the top left corner from about 25 yards out, giving the Pittsburgh goalkeeper no chance of getting a hand to it. Loudoun’s defense held on for the rest of the match, and Loudoun United went on to win 2-1.
The match on Sunday night is the second for Loudoun United against Hartford Athletic during the 2021 USL Championship regular season. The last time they faced each other, Hartford won 2-1 thanks to a goal in the fifth minute of added time that broke the tie. Jovanny Bolivar converted a penalty kick in the 78thminute to score the lone goal for Loudoun in that match.
