LEESBURG, Va. – Loudoun United FC today announced four player signings for the upcoming 2022 USL Championship season. The Red-and-White have signed goalkeeper Trey Muse along with defender Grant Lillard, winger Azaad Liadi, and defender Sami Guediri. The signings are pending league and federation approval.
Muse, a Louisville native, was a product of the Seattle Sounders FC Academy. The goalkeeper continued his soccer career at Indiana University in 2017, where he led the NCAA in goals-against average (0.26), shutouts (18), and save percentage (90.3%). After two seasons with the Hoosiers, the 22-year-old signed the 11th Homegrown Player contract in club history with Seattle Sounders FC in Jan. 2019. The goalkeeper then spent the 2021 season on loan with the USL Championship side, San Diego Loyal SC, where he made 15 appearances and logged 1,350 minutes.
“Trey [Muse] is a young and talented goalkeeper that has proven himself through his college and professional career,” Ryan Martin, Loudoun United Head Coach, said. “He was a part of the Seattle Sounders roster that won the 2019 MLS Cup and has tremendous professional experience at a young age. He is a great shot stopper with impressive distribution, and we are excited to add those qualities and his experience to our goalkeeping core.”
Lillard, a defender from Arizona, attended Indiana University from 2014-2017, where he made 86 appearances, scored 14 goals, and recorded nine assists. The 26-year-old was signed to a Homegrown contract by Chicago Fire FC on Jan. 10, 2018, where he made 12 appearances and recorded two assists. Lillard was then traded to Inter Miami CF in 2019 and Columbus Crew SC in 2020, where he was part of the squad that won the 2020 MLS Cup but made no appearances for either team.
“We are excited to have Grant [Lillard] join Loudoun United in 2022,” Ryan Martin, Loudoun United Head Coach, said. “He is a talented defender with great size so he will be a welcomed addition at center back. Grant also has played with a variety of MLS teams in his career and won the 2020 MLS Cup with Columbus Crew SC so his experience will be an asset to our roster.”
Liadi, a Michigan native, attended Saginaw Valley State University from 2016-2018, where he made 56 appearances and scored 11 goals. The 23-year-old transferred to Georgia Southern Eagles for his senior season in 2019, making 16 appearances and scoring three goals. After college, the winger signed a professional contract with FC Tucson of USL League One in March 2020, scoring three goals and recording three assists in 15 appearances (11 starts). Ahead of the 2021 season, the winger made the move to South Georgia Tormenta FC, where he scored seven goals and recorded five assists in 27 appearances (24 starts).
“Liadi is an exciting attacking player who has the tools to make an immediate impact on our team,” Ryan Martin, Loudoun United Head Coach, said. “He scored nine goals last season and is a fantastic pressing forward. We are looking forward to adding his goal scoring and attacking threat to our roster ahead of the 2022 season.”
Guediri, a defender from Florida, started his professional career overseas with German club BW Freisdorf, where he played from 2016-17. He played for German team VfL Alfter in 2017 before returning to the States in 2018 to play for former USL League Two club Sima Águilas in Montverde. Guediri spent the 2019 season with USL League One club Greenville Triumph, making 17 appearances before signing with Fort Lauderdale CF the following year. In the 2020 season, Guediri played all 16 matches (14 starts) and recorded two assists for Inter Miami’s USL League One affiliate. In April, the defender joined Inter Miami CF for the 2021 MLS season where he made 10 appearances (two starts) and recorded one assist.
“Guediri will add some important professional experience to our team for the 2022 season,” Ryan Martin, Loudoun United Head Coach, said. “He has proven himself at a variety of professional levels during his career. He’s a talented and gifted defender and we’re hoping he can provide leadership to our younger players on the roster.”
