New Ownership: Attain Sports and Entertainment reached an agreement with D.C. United Ownership Group to control ownership stake in Loudoun United FC. Attain, which is led by CEO and Managing General Partner Greg Baroni, will assume operation of the club prior to the 2023 USL Championship season, which kicks off next month. Baroni will serve as Principal Owner of LUFC and represent the club on the USL Board of Governors.
“We are excited to join Loudoun United FC and the USL in partnership with the ownership of D.C. United and look forward to building on the momentum that Jason Levien and the team have created,” said Greg Baroni, CEO and Principal General Partner, Attain Sports & Entertainment. “I have a tremendous passion for the sport of soccer, and am committed to working together to enhance the fan experience and continue to strengthen the connection to the Northern Virginia community,”
Open Cup Debut: Loudoun United FC is set to participate in the 2023 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup for the first time in club history. Founded in 1914, the 2023 Open Cup will be the 108th edition of the oldest soccer tournament in the United States. Learn more about the U.S. Open Cup here.
Official Partner: Loudoun United and Betfred agreed to a multi-year partnership to make Betfred the team’s official sports betting partner. As part of the partnership, Betfred will be the back-of-jersey sponsor for the Red-and-White home and away kits beginning the 2023 season. This marks Betfred’s first partnership with a soccer club in the United States.
Technical staff addition: The Red-and-White welcomes Omar Badran as the club’s newest goalkeeper coach. After a seven-year professional career and numerous educational accolades, Badran joins the squad ahead of the 2023 season.
“I can’t wait to get started with the team and specifically the goalkeepers,” Omar Badran said. “We have a great technical staff that I’m grateful to work with. I was once taught that you are only as effective as your partnerships, and I can’t wait to transmit that message to our goalkeepers this upcoming season.”
Badran joins assistant coaches GR Cannon and Mattar M’Boge to round out the technical staff.
