Leesburg, VA (June 28th, 2025) – Loudoun United Football Club remains perfect in USL Jägermeister Cup play following a penalty kick shootout victory over Charlotte Independence at Segra Field.
Match Summary
Following a 2-hour match delay due to weather, Loudoun United Football Club moved to 3-0-0 in the USL Jägermeister Cup with a 4-3 penalty shootout win over USL League One side Charlotte Independence. Loudoun had a strong first half, creating sharp chances on net with 11 shots and maintaining 65% possession through the first 45 minutes. Their best scoring opportunities came from Abdellatif Aboukoura in the 21st minute, on a tough one-on-one with the keeper that was just out of reach, and from Hakim Karamoko, who fired a powerful shot just wide of the left post in the 36th minute. Charlotte began to find their rhythm late in the half, tallying four shots on target. The first half ended in a 0-0 draw.
The second half saw action early, with Loudoun’s Abdellatif Aboukoura curling a free kick into the top right corner of the net to give the Red-and-White a 1-0 lead in the 63rd minute. However, the lead didn’t last long, as Charlotte’s Souaibou Marou broke through the Loudoun defense and equalized in the 73rd minute. Both clubs traded blows but were unable to break the deadlock. Regulation time ended 1-1, sending the match to a penalty shootout.

“Feels good to get the win, but we are disappointed we let them (Charlotte) hang on in the end there. We had some good chances to put that game away, but instead we ended up in penalties. A lot to work on heading into next Thursday’s match against Orange County, but we are happy to remain atop our group for the Jägermeister Cup.”
