Match Summary
Loudoun United Football Club secured a big point on the road and moves to 8-5-3 following a 2-2 draw against Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC at Highmark Stadium. The first half saw action quickly, with both teams netting a goal before the 15-minute mark. Loudoun United opened the scoring at Highmark Stadium just seven minutes into the match following a beautiful cross from Wesley Leggett to Riley Bidois. However, just five minutes later, Pittsburgh would find the equalizer from Augi Williams on the penalty kick following a handball on Loudoun inside their own 18-yard box. Just 12 minutes into the match, and we have a 1-1 game. Following a fast start from both clubs, Loudoun and Pittsburgh settled in. Loudoun’s Bidois had another strong look on net around the 30th minute of play on a diving header, but it was deflected wide by the Pittsburgh backline. The first half of play would finish 1-1.
Following a back-and-forth first half of play, the second half started off slowly as both sides looked to maintain possession. Pittsburgh’s Robbie Mertz gave the Riverhounds the lead in the 73rd minute of play, rebounding his own shot past Loudoun’s defense from the edge of the 6-yard box. The Red-and-White looked like they were heading back to Segra Field with a loss, until Ben Mines found the late equalizer in the 90+2 minute of stoppage time to level the match at 2-2. The Pittsburgh defense blocked an initial shot by Florian Valot that fell to the feet of Mines, who made no mistake getting it past Pittsburgh goalkeeper Eric Dick. The match would end in a 2-2 draw, as late heroics from Loudoun’s Ben Mines helped the Red-and-White secure a point on the road.

“Incredibly proud of these guys for stepping up tonight and securing a point late here. Pittsburgh is a heck of a team, and securing points against a team like this on the road is a testament to the hard work our guys put in. We are doing a lot right, we just need to be more clinical and clean up some things, all eyes are on Oakland (Roots) now.”
Florian Valot on the result in Pittsburgh:
“This is a very tough place to play, but those two goals we scored tonight are exactly how we want to play. We are a team, and it showed by how well our bench came to play tonight; this isn’t about the starting 11, it’s about the full 20 guys we have on this team, that is what makes us special.”

Despite missing tonight’s match, Abdellatif Aboukoura is still tied for the lead in goals this season with 11.
