Leesburg, VA (July 19th, 2025) – Loudoun United Football Club moves to 8-6-3 following a 2-0 loss to Oakland Roots SC at Segra Field.
Match Summary
Loudoun United Football Club failed to secure points in a 2-0 loss to Oakland Roots SC at Segra Field. The Red-and-Whites’ record moves to 8-6-3 as they head into the 4th Round of the USL Jägermeister Cup against North Carolina FC next week. The first half of play was all Oakland, as they opened the scoring early in the first half, when Neveal Hackshaw ripped a shot from outside of the 18-yard box that snuck past the Loudoun defense and into the back of the net. Then, just five minutes later, Peter Wilson received a cheeky through-ball from Daniel Gomez that found its way behind the Loudoun back line, and Wilson made no mistake tapping it past Loudoun goalkeeper Hugo Fauroux, putting the Roots up 2-0 in the 27th minute. The first half of play would end 2-0 in favor of Oakland.
Following some early subs, Loudoun United picked up momentum and began to create chance after chance in the attacking third. The Red-and-Whites’ best opportunities on goal came from Ben Mines, Zach Ryan, and Florian Valot, but Oakland’s goalkeeper Kendall McIntosh (who finished with seven saves and a clean sheet) came up huge with some massive close-quarters saves to keep Loudoun off the scoresheet. Despite taking over in the second half of play, Loudoun United was unable to find the back of the net, and the match ended in a 2-0 loss to Oakland.
Thoughts from the Club
Head Coach Ryan Martin on a tough loss at home to Oakland:
“We are looking at ourselves in the mirror after this performance. We need to start matches better; every match needs to be played like it is a final, and tonight we were coming up short on both sides of the pitch. We will regroup and look to make a strong push towards a playoff spot.”
