Match Summary
The Red-and-White lose a 5-goal heartbreaker in Tulsa, OK, following a stoppage-time winner from FC Tulsa’s Giordano Colli. Loudoun United FC moves to 8-7-3 in league play and remains in third place in the Eastern Conference, just one point ahead of North Carolina FC. Loudoun United got started quickly, with Riley Bidois sneaking between Tulsa defenders and finding the back of the net in the 14th minute of play off a pass from Kwame Awuah. Despite some spectacular first-half goalkeeping from Loudoun’s Hugo Fauroux, with three big first-half saves, FC Tulsa managed to find the equalizer in the 43rd minute of play when Owen Damm crossed a ball through the Loudoun backline and onto the foot of Taylor Calheira, who had an easy tap-in from three yards out. Both teams would head to the locker room for halftime with a goal apiece.
After a slow start to the second half, Loudoun United retook the lead in the 67th minute of play from a sideline throw-in. Loudoun’s Keegan Tingey provided a deep throw-in towards the Tulsa net that goes off Cole Turner’s head and lands at the foot of Yanis Leerman, who made no mistake putting it home. This is Leerman’s first career goal with the Red-and-White. From there, it was all FC Tulsa. The Western Conference side bagged two late second-half goals; one came in the 84th minute from Stefan Lukic to tie the match at 2-2, then the match-winner from Giordano Colli in the 4th minute of stoppage time to propel Tulsa from down 2-1 to winning 3-2 in a matter of 10 minutes.
The Red-and-White remain on the road to take on Eastern Conference rival Rhode Island FC next Saturday, August 9th.

“That’s a tough way to lose a match. We felt like, overall, we played a good game up until those last ten minutes. We know we should’ve walked out of here with at least one point, but now it’s just about learning from those late mistakes and correcting them. All eyes are on Rhode Island for next weekend.”
