Loudoun United Football Club announces Alen Marcina as Director of Scouting
Leesburg, VA (September 4th, 2025) – Loudoun United Football Club is proud to announce the appointment of Alen Marcina as the club’s new Director of Scouting. Alen will be responsible for leading the club’s scouting and recruiting efforts, identifying, and evaluating players for both Loudoun United FC and Virginia Revolution youth teams.
“I’m honored to join Loudoun United FC as the Director of Scouting. The new leadership’s vision creates opportunities to build one of the most forward-thinking clubs in the U.S., and this role represents both a chance to help build something special and a natural progression into broader leadership within the game.”
Marcina brings a wealth of experience to the role, having played over 200 games before transitioning as a coach. During his years as a coach, he is best known for his time in San Antonio. He first coached the then-called San Antonio Scorpions to an NASL Championship title in 2014. Marcina returned to San Antonio in 2019 to be an assistant coach for San Antonio FC (SAFC) of the USL Championship, and then moved up to head coach in 2020.
“We aim to have the best people at Loudoun United to achieve our goals in the coming seasons”, said Karl Sharman, President of Loudoun United FC. “Alen is another key addition to our growing technical staff that will allow us to continue to progress in the field. Alen’s experience in the USL and knowledge of players locally, domestically, and overseas will be a key asset for Niko (Eckart) and Ryan (Martin) going forward.”
In every season at SAFC, apart from his last, Marcina’s team featured in the USL Championship Playoffs. This includes winning the 2022 Players’ Shield as the team with the best record through the regular season, culminating in a victory in the 2022 USL Championship Final. After leaving SAFC in 2024, he joined San Antonio City Soccer Club as an Executive Director to lead their boys’ program in the ECNL.
