The Red-and-White started the first half aggressively, creating strong chances and testing North Carolina goalkeeper Trevor Mulqueen early on. Despite a chippy back-and-forth half with six yellows being shown between the two clubs, Loudoun’s Riley Bidois gave the Red-and-White the lead in the 36th minute of play off an over-the-top pass from defender Yanis Leerman. Fauroux was replaced by goalkeeper Ryan Jack, making his professional debut when the Red-and-White needed him most. North Carolina’s Louis Perez equalized the match in the 13th minute of stoppage time with a volley from outside the box. The Red-and-White would lose 5-3 in the penalty kick shootout but secured the needed point to clinch first place in Group 5 and advance to the knockout stage next month. Loudoun’s rookie goalkeeper, Ryan Jack, made a total of six saves in the match.
