“It is great to put the Loudoun Soccer Jersey on again. As a kid I always wanted to play professional soccer and to be able to come back to my roots and put this Loudoun Soccer Jersey back on is something special,” defender, Collin Verfurth, said. “It is a great feeling to be able to represent this club and my city.”
Collin sets an inspiring example for the kids in the county, showing them what they can accomplish given the Pathway to Pro soccer platform created with the new D.C. United affiliate, Loudoun United.
“I think it is really meaningful to have one of our former players play for Loudoun United. It wasn’t too long ago that Collin played for Loudoun Soccer, it is really significant to us,” Collin’s former Loudoun Soccer Coach, John O’Hara, said. “The access to games and to have the ability for kids to come see a live professional game is really essential.”
The Pathway to Pro platform creates chances for young aspiring athletes to be given the correct tools and guidance to reach the professional level. With the abundance of talent that Loudoun County has to offer it is important to make sure that it gets recognized and developed properly.
“Growing up I didn’t really have that club close by to go watch, so to be able to give that to kids in the area means a lot,” Verfurth, said. “I was just like them a few years ago and one day they can be just like me.”
