Loudoun United FC lost 2-0 to Louisville City FC on the road at Lynn Family Stadium in Louisville, Kentucky on Saturday.The match was back and forth at the start, with both sides sharing the possession and each having decent opportunities to score. Louisville City broke the deadlock in the 39th minute when Cameron Lancaster scored on the counter, sliding the ball to the right of Loudoun United goalkeeper Colin Miller.
Loudoun United kept the pressure on to close the half, but were not able to equalize and went into halftime down 1-0.Louisville City doubled their lead in the early stages of the second half, courtesy of Napo Matsoso placing a shot into the bottom left corner in the 49th minute with the assist coming from Paolo DelPiccolo. Loudoun United continued to fight to get back in the contest as Joshua Fawole broke through and nearly capitalized midway through the second half, forcing a good save from Louisville City goalkeeper Benjamin Lundt. Fawole showed flashes of positivity after making his first start for the club since arriving before the season.
Head Coach Ryan Martin’s second-half substitutes, Brandon Williamson, Jacob Greene, and Christian Sorto provided a spark and helped the Red-and-White keep the pressure on, but it unfortunately was not enough to help Loudoun United claw back into the game.
