Loudoun United FC announced today that goalkeeper Joe Rice will join Detroit City FC on loan until the end of the season.
Joe Rice, a Fairfax native, joined Loudoun United FC ahead of the 2022 USL Championship season. Since then, Rice has started five matches for the Red-and-White, recording 20 saves.
Rice signed to USL League One’s New England Revolution II during the 2020 preseason and went on to start in nine matches, recording 45 saves and three clean sheets. Rice ranked third in USL League One with eight shutouts in 20 appearances in the 2021 season.
The six-foot-four-inch goalkeeper made his professional debut with the Richmond Kickers of USL League One in 2019. In 2018, Rice made 13 appearances for Lionbridge FC in USL League Two. Prior to his professional career, Rice attended Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) where he was a member of the Rams’ soccer team.
Loudoun United FC travel to California to face Sacramento Republic FC on Saturday, September 10. Kickoff is slated for 10:00 p.m. EST. The match will be available for broadcast on ESPN+.
