Leesburg, VA. (December 7, 2023) – Loudoun United FC today announced that the club has signed 2021 USL Championship title winner Tommy McCabe to a two-year contract, pending league and federation approval.
McCabe, 25, joins the Red-and-White with experience competing in the USL Championship for FC Tulsa, Detroit City FC, Orange County, Memphis 901 FC and North Carolina FC. His career spans five seasons in the USL Championship.
“We’re thrilled to welcome former USL Champion Tommy [McCabe], to Loudoun United,“ said Head Coach Ryan Martin. “He’s had a tremendous career and will bring great experience to our team. He’s a phenomenal reader of the game, who covers a lot of ground. He’ll be key in the way we press and build in possession.”
In 2019, McCabe was selected 29th overall in the 2019 MLS SuperDraft by FC Cincinnati. He spent the 2019 season on loan with USL Championship side North Carolina, appearing in nine matches and scoring two goals. Following a loan to Memphis 901 FC on August 28, 2020, McCabe appeared in seven matches for the Tennessee-based team.
Amid his two separate loan spells, McCabe totaled seven MLS appearances for Cincinnati. The five-foot- eleven-inch midfielder signed with Orange City SC in 2021, where he contributed one goal and two assists over two seasons. With Orange City SC, McCabe lifted the USL Championship trophy in 2021 after appearing in 31 of the club’s 32 regular season matches, as well as starting all four of its playoff contests.

On the international stage, McCabe has earned several caps for the United States youth system, highlighted by an appearance in the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup against Croatia.
Before launching his professional career, McCabe played three years of collegiate soccer at University of Notre Dame from 2016 to 2018, amassing 61 appearances and tallied four assists.
