Leesburg, VA (April 14th, 2025) – Loudoun United Football Club remains on the road to take on USL Championship side Louisville City FC at Lynn Family Stadium on Tuesday, April 15th at 7:00 PM.
The Matchup
Loudoun United Football Club is 5-1-0 in USL Championship league play in the 2025 season thus far and sits in first place in the Eastern Conference. When it comes to Open Cup play, the Red-and-White defeated West Chester United SC in the 1st Round of the U.S. Open Cup on March 18th at YSC Sports in Wayne, PA, where Riley Bidois recorded two goals for Loudoun United. In the 2nd Round, Loudoun United hosted Virginia Dream FC, defeating them 4-2 at Segra Field with goals from Riley Bidois, Benjamin Mines, and Zach Ryan (2). Loudoun United FC looks to get their first-ever win at Lynn Family Stadium and book their ticket to the 4th round of the U.S. Open Cup.
Louisville City FC is 3-0-2 in USL Championship league play thus far and sits in 2nd place in the Eastern Conference. This will be Louisville City FC’s first U.S. Open Cup match of the 2025 campaign. Loudoun United FC has already visited Lynn Family Stadium once this season, losing to Louisville 2-0 on March 22nd. Tuesday’s match will mark the second of four scheduled meetings this season between Eastern Conference rivals Louisville City FC and Loudoun United Football Club. The Red-and-White will host Louisville City on May 31st in the Jägermeister Cup and June 25th in the USL Championship.
The winner of this 3rd round matchup will move on to play in the Round of 32 on May 6th or 7th.

About the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup
The Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup is U.S. Soccer’s Club Championship and has crowned a champion annually since 1914 (with the exception of 2020 and 2021 due to COVID-19). The historic tournament is conducted on a single-game, knockout basis and is open to all professional and amateur teams affiliated with U.S. Soccer. The runner-up will earn $100,000, while the team that advances the furthest from each lower division will take home a $25,000 cash prize. Los Angeles Football Club of the MLS is the defending Champion. The 109th edition of the tournament concluded on September 25, 2024, with LAFC beating four-time Champions Sporting Kansas City 3-1 at BMO Stadium in Los Angeles to become Open Cup Champions for the first time.
