Match Recap | Loudoun United FC vs Louisville City FC
Leesburg, VA (June 25th, 2025) – Loudoun United Football Club’s home win streak comes to an end following a 1-4 loss to Louisville City FC at Segra Field.
Match Summary
Loudoun United FC falls to 8-5-1 on the season following a tough 4-1 loss to Louisville City at Segra Field. The Red-and-White dominated nearly every category in the first half, tallying one goal, seven shots, two on target, and 80% possession in the opening 45 minutes. However, it was Louisville who struck first. In the 25th minute, Carlos Moguel found the back of the net on a deflected header from the top of the six-yard box. Loudoun battled back and drew a penalty just six minutes later, in the 31st minute. Abdellatif Aboukoura calmly converted from the spot, tying the match at 1-1 with his 11th goal of the 2025 USL Championship regular season. Just before stoppage time, Loudoun’s Yanis Leerman received a straight red card, sending Loudoun into the half tied on the scoreboard but down a man for the remainder of the match.
Despite being reduced to 10 men, Loudoun started the second half strong and continued to create chances. However, in the 57th minute, an own goal off a long Louisville throw-in gave the visitors a 2-1 lead. Moments later, Head Coach Ryan Martin received back-to-back yellow cards and was ejected, joining Leerman in the locker room. Loudoun pushed to equalize but couldn’t capitalize on their opportunities. Louisville added two more goals on fast breaks, taking advantage of the extra man, one from Jansen Wilson and another from Ray Serrano. Loudoun United ultimately fell 4-1 to Louisville City at Segra Field.
The Red-and-White are back home this Saturday, June 28th, to take on USL League One side Charlotte Independence in the USL Jägermeister Cup.
Thoughts From the Club
Head Coach Ryan Martin on the result:
“Anytime you play one of the top teams in the league, challenges are presented, and we knew going into this match that restarts would be massive. We are disappointed in our defending; the fact is, we just can’t give up goals off long throws. You can’t do that against good teams and win those games. More urgency and more quality are the name of the game heading into Saturday.”
Drew Skundrich on tonight’s loss:
“Never feels great to lose at home in front of our fans. Set pieces lost us the match, and there is no excuse for that. That red card didn’t lose us the match; we had our opportunities to come out with a draw, but we got lost and gave up some weak goals near the end.”
Notes
Abdellatif Aboukoura tallied his 11th USL Championship goal of the season and 13th across all competitions.
Florian Valot still sits in second place in the USL Championship for assists with six.
