Leesburg, VA. (January 18, 2026) – Loudoun United FC announce that the club has signed Atlanta United Two defender Salvatore Mazzaferro to a two-year contract, pending league and federation approval.
Mazzaferro, 24, joins the Red-and-White with experience across MLS, MLS NEXT Pro, and NCAA Division I soccer. Mazzaferro most recently competed in MLS NEXT Pro with Atlanta United 2, while also earning short-term opportunities with Atlanta United FC during the 2025 season.

Mazzaferro spent the 2025 campaign with Atlanta United 2, making consistent appearances and providing a reliable presence along the back line. His performances earned him short-term agreements with Atlanta United’s first team, and he made his MLS debut in August 2025, appearing in a Leagues Cup match against Mexican side Atlas.
Prior to his time in Atlanta, Mazzaferro began his professional career in the Austin FC organization after being selected in the third round of the 2023 MLS SuperDraft. He signed with Austin FC II in MLS NEXT Pro in March 2023 and went on to make more than 50 appearances for the club. Mazzaferro was also part of the Austin FC II squad that won the 2023 MLS NEXT Pro Championship, adding postseason experience to his resume early in his career.

A Toronto native, Mazzaferro also gained early experience at the semi-professional level, featuring for Toronto FC III in League1 Ontario and later playing for Tormenta FC 2 in USL League Two.
Before turning professional, Mazzaferro starred at the University of South Florida, where he appeared in 63 matches across four seasons and developed into a consistent leader in the Bulls’ defensive unit. He made his collegiate debut in August 2019 and was named to the AAC All-Rookie Team and All-Academic Team following his freshman season.
