Thoughts from the Club
Head Coach Anthony Limbrick on the draw against Birmingham Legion FC and the team’s approach to the final match of the season:
“I thought it was a tough game for us, being our third game of the week and third away game of the week. We went to Miami and got a good win earlier in the week, then had a very narrow defeat against Rhode Island. I thought the players gave absolutely everything tonight. We did look tired, I must admit, and we were trying to get as many subs on as we could to help out. But all in all, we pushed toward the end and probably could have nicked one. I thought we defended the box well and were determined not to concede, but we probably needed a little more quality in and around the final third to create better chances from the positions we got into. Looking ahead, we want to go and win that last game at home in front of our fans. Hopefully, it’s a big crowd with it being Halloween weekend and fireworks after the match. We want to finish strong and put on a good performance in front of our own fans. These players will keep going until the end. They always will, and I’m really proud of them for that. We want to get that win on the last day.”
Midfielder and Captain James Murphy on the team’s performance and earning a point on the road:
“It’s been a long week, for sure, going away three times and hopping on and off flights all week. It was really about finding the energy and intensity to compete tonight and get as much out of the game as we could. I think at times we looked a little lethargic, but we dug in, especially in the second half, where we probably created more. I thought the boys defended really well and put their best foot forward. The back four and the guys who came off the bench were putting in a shift, blocking shots and defending the box really well. At the end of the day, if you don’t concede a goal, you’re not going to lose the game. We’ll take that and we’ll roll with it.”
Notes
