The Red-and-White look to carry their momentum from Wednesday’s Open Cup win into Saturday’s USL match.
After a weekend of rest, Loudoun head into their match against Birmingham Legion with high hopes. Loudoun United defeated North Carolina FC 2-1 with an extra time game winning goal from Wesley Leggett in the 116th minute.
Loudoun started a first-choice lineup against NCFC in its first-ever Open Cup match. Forward Zach Ryan returned to the lineup after missing the last two matches due to suspension. Ryan wasted no time, scoring in the seventh minute of the match to give United the lead.
In the second half, NCFC found their equalizer in the 67th minute. The deciding factor was Wesley Leggett, who was subbed on in the 84th minute. Following a beautifully weighted switch of play from Jeremy Garay, Abdoul Zanne found the on-rushing Leggett, who finished the cross with a calm first-timed finish.
Goalkeeper Hugo Fauroux was the player that stole the show. The Frenchman came up big time and time again to keep the game level for the Red-and-White.

About Birmingham Legion FC
Birmingham Legion FC head to Segra Field following their first loss in the 2023 season. Birmingham sits in first place in the Eastern Conference standings with ten points (3-1-1). Legion were defeated by Phoenix Rising 2-1 in a tight back-and-forth match that saw three second half goals.
The first goal on Sunday came from Phoenix Rising in the 58th minute. Birmingham immediately responded with a goal of its won in the 59th minute from Gabriel Alves. Less than ten minutes later, Phoenix found their game winner.
Match Up History
Saturday’s match will be the fifth time the two clubs will meet in the USL Championship. Birmingham currently holds the lead in head-to-head matchups 3-0-1.
