Loudoun United are set to play against Miami FC for their 11th match of the 2021 United Soccer League (USL) Championship Regular Season. Loudoun will look to rebound from their most recent loss against Hartford Athletic and earn three points at home on Sunday night.
In their last time out, Loudoun United fell 2-0 to Hartford Athletic on July 4. The Red-and-White were unable to recover from two second half goals scored by Hartford despite outshooting them 18-12 and keeping 58% of the possession in the match. Loudoun got off to a quick start and had two close chances in the opening minutes. The first was from Kimarni Smith, whose left-footed attempt sailed just over the crossbar in the 3rd minute. Shortly after, Giovanni Montesdeoca fired a shot from a distance that nearly found the target, but flew just over the crossbar. United controlled the first half thanks to the strong play in the midfield by Ted Ku-DiPietro and Nicky Downs, but were unable to find a goal, and the two sides went into halftime tied 0-0.
Hartford Athletic scored two goals in quick succession in the second half, in the 64th and 73rd minutes. Arthur Rodgers converted from in-close on a counterattacking opportunity, and then Preston Etaka slotted home following a cross from Sebastian Elney. Loudoun looked to respond quickly and Robert Dambrot had a headed effort from in-close narrowly saved by the Hartford goalkeeper in the 77th minute and Michael Gamble had his shot from inside the box sail just wide in the 84th minute. Loudoun United were unable to find the back of the net and the match finished with Hartford winning 2-0.
Sunday night’s match will be only the second meeting between two teams. In the first coming together, Loudoun lost 2-1 despite outshooting Miami FC 34-8 and playing most of the match with a man advantage. Kairou Amoustapha scored the lone goal for the Red-and-White in the 82nd minute. Both teams play in the Eastern Conference Atlantic Division and will face each other a total of four times during the 2021 USL Championship Regular Season.
