Match Preview | Loudoun United FC vs. Hartford Athletic
Leesburg, VA (April 4th, 2025) – Loudoun United Football Club plays host to Eastern Conference rival Hartford Athletic on Saturday, April 5th at 4:30 PM ET.
The Match-Up
Loudoun United Football Club (3-1-0) takes on Eastern Conference rival Hartford Athletic (0-3-0) at Segra Field. The Red-and-White look to remain undefeated at home after posting a 2-0 shutout victory over Rhode Island FC in the Home Opener this past weekend. Loudoun United comes off a short break, following the USL Championship win on March 29th and U.S. Open Cup win on April 2nd. Momentum is the key; the club has scored seven goals in three league matches, and seven more goals in U.S. Open Cup play thus far. Loudoun’s rising star, Abdellatif Aboukoura, leads the league with four goals through the four league matches, and is currently up for USL Championship Player of the Month for March. The club currently sits in 2nd place in the Eastern Conference.
Hartford Athletic look to get their first point of the season, having scored only one goal in their three USL Championship matches and sitting in 11th place in the Eastern Conference. Hartford Athletic is coming off a short week as well after failing to USL League One side Portland Hearts of Pines in penalties in the second round of the U.S. Open Cup on Wednesday night. A player to look out for on Hartford is Mamadou Dieng, who led the club with 11 goals and 30 shots on target during the 2024 campaign and has the club’s only goal of the 2025 season.
Thoughts from the Club
Head Coach Ryan Martin on playing host to Hartford Athletic this weekend:
“We know how talented they are going forward, with (Michee) Ngalina, (Mamadou) Dieng, (Kyle) Edwards, and (Deshane) Beckford. They can certainly be dangerous. They have some strong size in the back, so for us it’s about eliminating their chances and runs in behind and being critical with our opportunities in their attacking end.”
Zach Ryan on the team’s mindset heading into Saturday’s match:
“This is a team that we have had some tough battles against over the past couple of years. They have a dangerous front three who are difficult in transition. We need to be prepared to defend against their attacks and, in turn, control the ball and create our own chances on their end. We are excited and looking forward to the challenge.”
Club News
Yanis Leerman is serving a one-match Red Card suspension that he received in last weekend’s 2-0 win over Rhode Island FC, making him unavailable against Hartford Athletic.
The Red-and-White have a current home record of 1-0-0.
Abdellatif Aboukoura has been nominated for USL Championship Player of the Month for March. Aboukoura led the Championship with four goals and added one assist in four outings to tie for the most goal contributions over the month, recorded five chances created, and led the league with 12 completed dribbles at a 50 percent success rate.
