Match Recap | Charleston Battery vs. Loudoun United FC
Charleston, SC (August 24th, 2025) – Loudoun United Football Club fall to Charleston Battery on the road in a 4-1 loss.
Match Summary
The Red-and-White move to 9-8-4 following a loss to Charleston Battery at Patriots Point. Loudoun tested the Charleston goalkeeper early on, but it was the Battery who opened the scoring against Loudoun with two quick goals. First, it was Jeremy Kelly in the 15th minute with his first goal of the season, followed closely by Cal Jennings on a header just three minutes later to give Charleston the 2-0 lead in the first 20 minutes of play. Despite leading in shots on goal in the first half, the Red-and-White would head to the locker room down two goals with work to do in the second half.
Charleston found an early goal in the second half as well, with Arturo Rodriguez finding the back of the net in the 53rd minute of play. 10 minutes later, it was Charleston again, this time from MD Myers, making the lead 4-0 in the 63rd minute of play. Loudoun’s Robby Dambrot finally got the Red-and-White on the scoresheet, netting his first goal of the season in the 71st minute with a beautiful volley from the top of the 18-yard box. Loudoun nearly found its second goal of the match when Quimi Ordóñez drew a penalty kick in the 77th minute. However, Ordóñez’s penalty kick attempt hit both posts, and the goal deficit would remain at three with just under 15 minutes left to play. The match finished at 4-1.
Thoughts from the Club
Head Coach Ryan Martin on tonight’s performance:
“We didn’t do the best job of making things easy for ourselves tonight. We had some bad giveaways, careless plays, found ourselves not compact enough, and then obviously weren’t as clinical at finishing as they (Charleston) were tonight. But we will pick our heads up; all eyes are on Miami now.”
Drew Skundrich on looking ahead to Miami:
“We just didn’t control things the way we wanted to. Intensity, reactions, body language, and looking flat really set us back tonight, and they punished us for it. We will be getting back to the basics this week and getting our mindsets right for Saturday’s match (against Miami FC).”
