Match Recap | El Paso Locomotive vs Loudoun United FC
El Paso, TX (September 6, 2025) – Loudoun United Football Club picked up all three points in a first-ever win over El Paso Locomotive.
Match Summary
The Red-and-White move to 11-8-4 on the season and sit in third place in the Eastern Conference with 37 points. Loudoun United started off the match in the best way possible, with Ben Mines scoring a header in the third minute of play, and Drew Skundrich scoring just ten minutes later to give Loudoun a two-goal lead in the first 13 minutes of play. Mines opened the scoring with a diving header off a quick throw-in from Pedro Santos. Santos’s throw-in found the head of Florian Valot first, then the head of Ben Mines at the top of the 6-yard box, giving Valot his 8th assist of the regular season. Skundrich’s goal came just 10 minutes later, when Valot played a free kick into the El Paso third that landed at Loudoun’s Kwame Awuah’s feet, who played a perfect pass to Skundrich, who buried it in the side netting. The match entered a (so we thought it was a lightning delay) short 5-minute delay due to heavy rain in the El Paso area. El Paso began applying pressure late in the first half, but they couldn’t get on the score sheet, and the first half would end 2-0 in favor of the Red-and-White.
In the second half of play, Loudoun’s goalkeeper Hugo Fauroux came up with a clutch penalty-kick save in the 65th minute of play to keep El Paso off the scoresheet for the time being. However, moments later, El Paso was able to get on the score sheet when Arturo Ortiz put a header into the net of a corner kick in the 66th minute of play. El Paso’s Ortiz then received his second yellow of the match just eight minutes later, giving Loudoun a one-man advantage with the 2-1 lead. El Paso would be unable to find the equalizer, and the Red-and-White would take their first-ever win over El Paso Locomotive in a thrilling 2-1 road win.
