Leesburg, VA (September 10, 2026) — Loudoun United FC announce that the club has acquired forward Liam Butts on loan from Atlanta United 2 for the remainder of the 2026 USL Championship season, pending league and federation approval. The transaction was completed prior to the USL Championship Roster Freeze on Monday, September 7.
“Obviously, it’s a big opportunity,” said Liam Butts. “The USL Championship is a great league, so I’m grateful to the organization and the staff for giving me this chance. I’m ready to get out there, show what I can do and hopefully make a positive impact for the team.”
Butts joins Loudoun United after spending the 2026 season with Atlanta United 2 in MLS NEXT Pro. He returned to the Atlanta organization ahead of the season after previously developing in the Atlanta United Academy before beginning his collegiate career at Penn State.
Prior to joining Atlanta United 2, Butts spent two seasons with New Engalnd Revolution II. During the 2025 campaign, he recorded 13 goals in 24 appearances, finishing tied for sixth in league goals.

In August 2025, Butts was named MLS NEXT Pro Player of the Matchweek after scoring twice in a 3-1 road victory over Philadelphia Union II. During his time with New England, Butts also earned opportunities with the Revolution First Team, appearing in the 2025 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.
Before beginning his professional career, Butts spent five seasons at Penn State, where he made 72 appearances and scored 25 goals for the Nittany Lions. He was selected 33rd overall by the San Jose Earthquakes in the second round of the 2023 MLS SuperDraft, before returning to Penn State for his final collegiate season.
Butts has also represented Guyana at the senior international level. He was called into the Golden Jaguars ahead of the 2025 Concacaf Gold Cup Preliminaries and later made his senior international debut during Concacaf World Cup Qualifying.

Liam adds another dynamic attacking profile to our group with the ability to contribute immediately while continuing his development.”
