Louisville, KY (September 19, 2026) — Loudoun United FC opened the scoring early on the road, but a pair of first-half goals from Louisville City FC proved to be the difference in a 2-1 defeat at Lynn Family Stadium.
Match Summary
Loudoun wasted little time getting on the scoresheet, taking the lead in the fifth minute. Abdellatif Aboukoura delivered a cross into the box for Eddy Davis III, who headed home the opening goal to give the Red-and-White an early 1-0 advantage.
Loudoun continued to create opportunities as the first half progressed. James Murphy and Noah Adnan each came close from set-piece situations before Aboukoura forced a save from the Louisville goalkeeper in the 20th minute and sent another effort just wide moments later. Louisville found its equalizer in the 38th minute when they finished a fast break to level the match at 1-1.
Louisville took the lead just before halftime when they finished from the center of the box in the 45th minute. Loudoun nearly responded before the break as Giorgi Lomtadze forced a save in stoppage time, but Louisville carried its 2-1 advantage into halftime.
Loudoun pushed for an equalizer throughout the second half. Pacifique Niyongabire forced the Louisville goalkeeper into a save in the 54th minute before sending another opportunity over the bar in the 60th. The Red-and-White continued to apply pressure and produced a dangerous stretch in the 73rd and 74th minutes, with Rida Zouhir forcing a save before efforts from Aboukoura and Murphy were blocked.
Loudoun kept pressing through the closing stages and had one final opportunity in stoppage time when Zouhir found Christian Torres in the box, but his header was saved. Loudoun was unable to find the equalizer as Louisville held on for the 2-1 result.

Head Coach Anthony Limbrick on the match:
“I thought that we started the game really well and got the early goal, which we were pleased with. I thought we had the better of the chances throughout the game. We obviously had a bad spell in the first half where we conceded two goals, and I thought we were really unfortunate to go in 2-1 down at halftime. I didn’t think they deserved that at all. In the second half, we kept pushing. Credit to the players, they kept going to the end, and we created enough chances to win that game. Unfortunately, I think when you look at every stat in that game, we’d be ahead apart from the scoreline, and that’s the one that matters. I think we need to keep doing what we’re doing. In the last three games, I look at those games and think that we’ve performed well enough to win all three. We just need to make sure we’re more clinical and tidy up on the defensive stuff as a whole team. If we keep performing the way we have in those three games, I think it’ll put us in good stead and give us a chance to win the games coming up.”
Defender Bolu Akinyode on the performance:
“It’s a tough one because I think it was a good performance. We created a lot of chances and had some good runs of play, but it’s tough coming away from here without a result. They’re a good team, and I think we competed. It’s just difficult when the results aren’t there, so we’ve got to pick ourselves up and go again next week. I think it’s about being more clinical in the final third, defending our box well, blocking shots and being solid defensively. At this point in the season, it’s a game of both boxes. We’ve put together some decent performances, but it means nothing if we can’t get three points.”
