Leesburg, VA (October 9, 2026) — Loudoun United FC has signed goalkeeper Patrick Donovan to a 25-day contract per the league’s emergency goalkeeper clause, following D.C. United’s recall of Jordan Farr from his loan with the club.
Donovan will be available for selection in Loudoun’s match against Miami FC on Saturday night at 7 p.m. ET at Pitbull Stadium.
Donovan joins Loudoun United after most recently spending time with Hartford Athletic of the USL Championship, where he signed a 25-day contract in July 2026. Prior to beginning his professional career, Donovan competed at the collegiate level for Boston College and Clemson University. The goalkeeper spent the 2025 season at Boston College, where he made three starts in goal and posted an undefeated 3-0-0 record, recording two saves and one shutout.
Before transferring to Boston College, Donovan spent three seasons at Clemson University from 2022 to 2024. During the 2024 campaign, he recorded a 4-1-2 record with 17 saves and two clean sheets, including shutouts against Stanford and Providence. Donovan also played every minute of Clemson’s postseason matches that season.
“Patrick is a young goalkeeper who has gained some really good experience at the college level, and has recently been part of a USL Championship environment with Hartford,” said Anthony Limbrick, Head Coach of Loudoun United FC. “We think he’ll be a good addition to the group, and bring some important depth to the goalkeeping position. It’s important that we have competition in every position, and we’re looking forward to having Patrick with us for the remainder of the season.”
During his time at Clemson, Donovan was a member of the Tigers’ 2023 NCAA National Championship and ACC Tournament Championship teams. Prior to his collegiate career, Donovan developed with Beachside Soccer Club, where he allowed the fewest goals among goalkeepers in MLS NEXT. He was also recognized as the top goalkeeper in the region by Top Drawer Soccer and New England Soccer Journal.
His youth experience also includes participation in 11 U.S. Youth National Team identification centers, training with Estudiantes de La Plata in Argentina, and competing internationally in Denmark with Capelli Sport USA.
Donovan now joins Loudoun United FC on a short-term agreement as the club finishes out its 2026 USL Championship season.
