Leesburg, VA (October 12, 2026) — Loudoun United FC continues its road stretch this Wednesday with a trip to Rhode Island to take on Rhode Island FC. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET at Centreville Bank Stadium as the Red-and-White look to build on Saturday’s victory over Miami FC and secure another three points away from home.
The Matchup
Loudoun enters Wednesday’s match following a 2-0 road victory over Miami FC on Saturday. After a scoreless opening 45 minutes, the Red-and-White continued to push for a breakthrough in the second half. Eddy Davis III delivered in the 85th minute to give Loudoun the lead before adding his second goal in stoppage time to secure all three points. The victory also marked a clean sheet for Loudoun as the club looks to carry that momentum into its next road test.
Rhode Island FC comes into Wednesday’s matchup following a 1-0 loss to Detroit City FC on Saturday. Despite playing with a man advantage for much of the match, Rhode Island was unable to find the back of the net and left Detroit empty-handed. With a spot in the USL Championship Playoffs within reach, Rhode Island will look to bounce back at home and secure an important three points.
Wednesday will mark the second meeting between Loudoun and Rhode Island this season. The two sides last met on June 13 at Segra Field, where Rhode Island came away with a 4-1 victory. Thor Úlfarsson scored Loudoun’s lone goal in the 58th minute, but Rhode Island added two more goals in the closing stages to put the match out of reach.
With the regular season nearing its conclusion, Loudoun will look to carry the momentum from its performance in Miami into another challenging road matchup. The Red-and-White will aim to build on Saturday’s attacking success and come away with a second consecutive victory.
Thoughts from the Club
Head Coach Anthony Limbrick on returning to face Rhode Island FC and building on Saturday’s victory over Miami FC:
“We weren’t happy with the result the last time we faced Rhode Island at home. It was a tight game early on, and we wanted to kick on and win it, but we had a difficult second half and they took advantage of that with some good goals. We feel like we owe them one going back to their place. They’re a good team and they’re in the playoff race for a reason, so we know it’s going to be another tough test away from home. However, we’re confident going into the game after a good performance and win against Miami. We scored two good goals late in the game and kept a clean sheet, which was great. We want to go to Rhode Island and replicate that same performance.”
Notes
Bolu Akinyode is two appearances away from reaching 300 career appearances across all USL competitions.
