Leesburg, VA. (January 15, 2026) — Loudoun United FC announce that the club has signed midfielder James Murphy to a two-year contract, pending league and federation approval.
Murphy, 28, joins Loudoun United after most recently competing in the USL Championship with Indy Eleven during the 2025 season. A versatile and experienced midfielder, Murphy brings a strong professional background that includes time in MLS, USL Championship, and overseas experience in both England and Scotland.

Murphy began his professional career overseas, signing with English club Sheffield Wednesday in 2016, and making his first-team debut later that year in the Football League Cup. He returned to the United States in 2018, joining Los Angeles FC ahead of the club’s inaugural MLS season and later gaining USL Championship experience on loan with Las Vegas Lights FC.

Following additional stints with Abroath in the Scottish Championship and Rio Grande Valley FC early in his professional career, Murphy continued to establish himself as a reliable presence in the USL Championship with Monterey Bay FC, Detroit City FC, and most recently Indy Eleven. During the 2025 season, Murphy made 36 appearances in all competitions for Indy, scoring once and contributing consistently in midfield.
