Leesburg, VA (August 8, 2026) — Loudoun United FC fell 1-0 to Charleston Battery at Segra Field. Charleston scored the lone goal of the match in the 64th minute as the Red-and-White saw their two-match USL Championship winning streak come to an end despite outshooting Charleston and creating chances.
Match Summary
The two sides played through a tightly contested opening half, with Charleston holding more of the possession while Loudoun looked to create opportunities going forward. Eddy Davis III made his Loudoun United debut in the starting lineup as the Red-and-White continued searching for the opening goal. Neither side was able to find a breakthrough before halftime, sending the match into the break scoreless.
Loudoun continued to push forward in the second half and created several opportunities around the Charleston penalty area. Giorgi Lomtadze entered the match in the 61st minute to make his Loudoun United debut before Charleston found the breakthrough three minutes later, giving the Battery a 1-0 advantage.
The Red-and-White responded by pushing forward in search of an equalizer and created several dangerous opportunities during the closing stages. Loudoun continued to apply pressure through the final whistle, but Charleston’s defense held firm to secure the 1-0 result.

“I thought it was against a really tough opponent. They’re a really good side and caused us a lot of problems in a tight first half. They stopped us from playing out at times, and out of possession it was difficult for us to get after them, so credit to them. I thought in the second half we really pushed toward the end. We had Eddy starting his first game and cramping up, then other players coming on, so it was difficult with the changes we had to make. We went to the end and were unfortunate with the goal. It was good play from them, but I thought we had chances toward the end and probably should have gotten an equalizer. I was disappointed we didn’t get a penalty. I thought there were two situations where we could have gotten one, but that’s how it works sometimes at home, and we have to go with that.”

“I thought we were in it for the majority of the game. I thought we were probably the better team, and it was a really winnable game for us, but there is more to come for sure.”
